Commodities Grown: Cucumbers

1) When did you know you wanted to be a farmer? I knew I wanted to be a farmer at a young age because I was born on a farm.
2) When did you actually start farming?
I first began farming 30 years ago.
3) What did you grow first?
Wheat, soy and jalapenos were the first products I planted.
4) What commodities have you grown over the years?
Through the years I have produced wheat, corn, soy, safflower and all types of vegetables.
5) What is your favorite commodity to grow? To eat?
I like growing cucumber and wheat.  Cherries are my favorite fruit to eat and tomatoes are my favorite vegetable.
6) When you’re not farming/working, what do you like to do with your spare time?
In my spare time I like cooking and to go fishing.
7) How would you describe your farm to someone who has never seen it before? I would describe my farm as fascinating.
8 ) What gives you the most satisfaction in farming?
My greatest satisfaction in farming comes from earning a living and also watching the development of the plants.
9) How long have you been farming and how long has farming been in your family? I
have been farming for 30 years and farming has been in my family since I was very young.
10) Tell your story behind your favorite brand ‘label’ and why it was chosen. My label is Doña Ana and Ana is my wife’s name.
11) If you could choose any other line of work what would that be and why?
If I had to choose another line of work, it would be cattle farming because we had cattle on our farm when I was growing up and it is something I am familiar with.
12) What are your favorite places to visit in Mexico and why?
My favorite places to visit in Mexico are San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, Puebla and Taxco because they remind me of some of my favorite Spanish cities.
